Turning The Key of Prayer.  Part 4.  The Lord's Prayer.

2/26/2014

The Lord's Prayer (based on Matthew 6:9-13 & Luke 11:2-4)
Our Father which art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done.
On earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.
Amen.

We can model our prayers on "The Lord's Prayer".

Our Father which art in heaven.
1. God is personal but holds a high position.
Hallowed be thy name.
2. Speak about God’s character.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
3. Acknowledge that His ways are best, and you’re willing to obey them.
Give us this day our daily bread.
4. Ask God to give you what you need today.
And forgive us our trespasses*, as we forgive those who trespass against us. )*Trespass = false step/sin).
5. Receive forgiveness and pass it on to others.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
6. Ask for help to choose and protection from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
7. End your prayer believing God will work.

Question for Reflection
How often should we model our daily prayers on "The Lord's Prayer" and why?

I welcome your comments.

2/18/2014

Key Verse for Prayer Series:
"…if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
-2 Chronicles 7:14, NIV

Recap for Prayer Series: Part 3.  "Prayer in the Life of Jesus".
Mark 1:35-39
1. If Jesus Prayed, We Sure Need To!
2. Too Busy Not To Pray!
3. Focus on What You're Doing.
i. Jesus Picked a Place
ii. Jesus Picked a Time.
4. Jesus' Personal Prayer Life Revolved Around Ministry.

Question for Reflection
Why does it help to pick a consistent time and place when it comes to our prayer lives?

Let me know your insights and thoughts.
Be blessed,

Pastor Jason

Turning the Key of Prayer: Part 2: Pray to Make a Difference.

2/14/2014

Key Verse for Prayer Series:
"if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV)

Recap
Pray to Make a Difference
1. Prayer: "Just Do It."
2. God Loves to Hear from You. (Luke 18:1-5)
3. Be a Student of Prayer. (Luke 11:1)

How do we pray to make a difference?
i. We must ask in faith!  Do you really believe that God has the power to act?
ii.  Be in relationship with Christ. (John 15:7, 8)
iii. Pray with the right motivation. (James 4:3)
iv. Ask in accordance with God's will.  (1 John 5:14-15)

Question for Reflection
What are ways that we can keep our prayers as genuine conversations with God rather than just routine?

I welcome your comments.

Turning The Key of Prayer.  Part 1: Seeing Past the Door.

2/4/2014

Key Verse for our "Turning The Key of Prayer" Series:
"if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV)

Recap
Prayer Series Part 1: Seeing Past the Door.  The Potential of Prayer.
Whenever we pray, we always keep the principle found in John 14:13 in mind.
John 14:13, "And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son."

Sometimes God's answer to our prayer is "yes".  Sometimes "no".  Sometimes "wait".
Paul dealt with a "no":
Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. (2 Corinthians 12:8, 9 NIV)

Our main scripture from Sunday was: Matthew 7:7-11 NIV (Click here to read)
1. Ask. Make the Request.
2. Seek.  Look for the Answer.
3. Knock.  Open the Door.

You have the key of prayer in your hand.  What good gifts are waiting for you behind the door as we turn the key?

Question for Reflection
What motivates you to keep praying for a request even when you haven't received an answer yet?

I welcome your comments and thoughts.
