A Leader in Missions

This past Sunday night, Chrissy and I (as well as several of you) went to see "Do You Believe?" at Calvary Pentecost.  Great film.  If you didn't see it, it is coming to DVD on August 4th.  The story followed twelve people's lives and their faith journeys.  Without giving anything away, one character had to make a difficult choice as to whether to stand up for what he believed in or lose his job.  The character said, "I was once asked if you were accused of being a Christian, would there be any evidence to convict you? I don’t know... But, if what I did was a crime, then I stand ready to be convicted."  That is "convicting" isn't it?  Do we live our lives in such as way that people can't help but know we're followers of Jesus?  Well, in a similar light, I was made aware of something I had recently overlooked.  I was talking to my brother Bert today (he's a pastor in Roblin, Ontario) and he said, "Congratulations to Laurentian Wesleyan Church being recognized as a top giver to Global Partners".  I didn't know what he meant, but then he directed me to a report from the recent district conference listing Laurentian Wesleyan Church as #1 in giving per capita to Global Partners (which is our denomination's missionary sending arm).  Congrats Laurentian!  With just under 60 churches in our district, that's amazing.  We say we believe in sharing the good news of Jesus with others around the world.  Is there enough evidence to convict?  Do we really believe that?  Yes we do!  Let's keep holding this value high.
