Worship…More Than Music

9/24/2014

Key Verse from Sunday:
John 4:23, NIV says, “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks."

Recap
Worship Is A Verb.
1.Worship changes our perspective.  God is in control (Isaiah 40:30-31)
2. Worship is Powerful.  Praise Precedes the Victory. (2 Chronicles 20:15, 20:21)
3. Worship reminds us of our Position.  We're Part of the Family of God. (Ephesians 2:6)
4. Worship reminds us that God is Personal.  He Knows You.
5. Prescription.  Worship the Lord. (Psalm 96:9a)

"Worship must be - Christ centered, Holy Spirit led, a Response to the Father, about Intimacy and Service and always lead to Transformation!" -Tim Hughes

Question for Reflection
How have I been impacted by worshiping God and do I want that for others?

I welcome your comments.

The Great Pursuit

9/17/2014

Key Verse from Sunday
"Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the duty of all mankind."
Ecclesiastes 12:13, NIV

Sermon Recap
Only in pursuing the eternal do we find meaning in the temporal.
Only in pursuing heaven do we find meaning on earth.

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Matthew 6:19-21, NIV

How do we keep Jesus' words in perspective?  Ask the question of what your'e doing, "Why are you doing what you're doing?"  Give it to God.  If it's not of God, give it up to God.

King David was a man of many successes, but also some pretty big failures.  He shows us that there's hope for you and I as we surrender to the Lordship of Christ in our lives as even he was called "a man after my own heart"
(Acts 13:22 & 1 Samuel 13:14).

Click the video below to listen to the song "Man After Your Own Heart" by Gary Chapman that we played at the end of service.

Question for Reflection
Have you given (or given up) what you're doing to God and found eternal meaning in it?

I welcome your comments.

You're On Purpose.  1 Samuel 3 .

9/9/2014

Key Verse from Sunday:
The LORD came and stood there, calling as at the other times, "Samuel!  Samuel!"
Then Samuel said, "Speak, for your servant is listening."
1 Samuel 3:10, NIV

Recap
1 Samuel 3
1. Keep the Faith in Dry Seasons (3:1).
2. Children are Often Ready to Hear from God (3:4-5a).
3. You Are No Accident (3:7).
(1 Samuel 1:11)
4. Are You Someone's Eli? (3:8b-9a).
5. When God Calls, Pick Up! (3:10).
6. Do What God Asks (3:11-18).
7. A Life Surrendered is Unmistakable (3:19-21).
Click "play" below to view the longer version of the inspiring video I showed at the end of the message.

Here's my version of Rita F. Pierson's inspiring statement:
“You have been chosen to be on this earth!
God's fingerprints are all over you.
You are somebody.  You were somebody when you entered this world, you were somebody when you entered this service and you'll be a better somebody when you leave by God's grace.
You are powerful. You are strong.  Not because of what you've done but because of what He's done in you!”

Question for Reflection
What specific thing can you do or say today to help someone understand their value to God?

I welcome your comments.

Going Through the Motions Only Makes You Tired

9/2/2014

Key Verse from Sunday:
"Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks."  -John 4:23

Recap
Jeremiah 26:1-16
1. God is Seeking True Worshipers.
"...make an announcement to the people who have come there to worship" (from Jeremiah 26:2).
Jeremiah had a difficult word from the Lord for the people who had come to worship.  Who are you worshiping?

2. Give Me the Whole Truth, And Nothing But the Truth.
"...Give them my entire message; include every word" (from Jeremiah 26:2).
Is there a part of God's truth that you're ignoring?

3. Don't Wait to Respond to God.
"Perhaps they will listen and turn from their evil ways" (from Jeremiah 26:3)
"...again and again to warn you, but you would not listen to them..." (from Jeremiah 26:5).
Isaiah 55:6, "Seek the LORD while he may be found..."

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me."  John 14:6.

Question for Reflection
How can you guard yourself, even in the church, from worshiping other things besides Jesus?

I welcome your comments.
