Encountering Jesus Part 2

11/25/2013

Picture
Key Verses from Sunday: Acts 9:3-5, NIV
As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him.
He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
“Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.
“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,”he replied.

Recap
1. An encounter with Jesus isn’t always accompanied by lightning bolts, but sometimes it is.
2. We never know when an encounter with Jesus will happen.
3. When we encounter Jesus, we realize that we were wrong.
4. No one is beyond the reach of Jesus.
5. We aren’t promised the easy road, but the best road.
6. When we encounter Jesus, we will have a place of ministry.

Question for Reflection
Why do some think we can only encounter Jesus in a church building or with a pastor?

I welcome your comments.

Encountering Jesus Part 1

11/19/2013

Key Scripture from Sunday:
Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”
“No, Lord,” she said.
And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.”
John 8:10-11, NLT

Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”
John 3:3, NLT

Recap
-When you encounter Jesus, you are overwhelmed by His love for you.
-When you encounter Jesus, you are convicted of your sin.
The main responsibility of the church isn't to point out people's sin, but to point people to Jesus.
-When you encounter Jesus, you can't hide.
-When you encounter Jesus, it's more than just knowledge.
-When you encounter Jesus, He wants to make you into a new creation.
-When you encounter Jesus, there is always more.

Question for Reflection
What happens when someone knows about Jesus, but doesn't know Jesus personally?

Sacrifice & Freedom

11/11/2013

Key Verse from Sunday
"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends."  John 15:13

Recap
There are many stories told of soldiers who have given their lives for their friends.  John 15:13.
Jesus modeled this for us.  He gave His life for us.  1 John 3:16.
Jesus went further, because we were still sinners when He died for us.  Romans 5:6-8.
Just as soldiers have given their lives for our freedom.  So Jesus, gave His life for our spiritual freedom.  Galatians 5:1.
Have you received the freedom & forgiveness of Jesus, made possible by His sacrifice?

Question for Reflection
In what ways has Jesus' sacrifice given you freedom?

Waiting On God

11/5/2013

Key Verse from Sunday
Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:30-31, ESV

Recap
Why does God sometimes make us wait?
1. Waiting makes us stop (Psalm 37:7).
2. Waiting helps us listen (Mark 8:18-21).
3. Waiting makes us patient (James 5:7).
4. Waiting helps us trust God (Isaiah 40:30-31).
5. We can wait because God waits for us! (2 Peter 3:9 & Luke 15-The Prodigal Son).

Question for Reflection
Do you sometimes expect God to wait for you, but you're unwilling to wait for Him?
