New Beginnings & Second Chances, Part 4: Jonah

1/28/2014

Key Verse from Sunday:
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"  -2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV

Recap
We looked at the story of Jonah (you can read the story from the Bible by clicking here>>)

Some thoughts from Jonah's life.
1. Don't Run from God.
2. Even though Jonah had given up on himself, God hadn't given up on Jonah.
3. When God speaks, people listen.
4. Repentance releases God's compassion.
5. People come first.

Question for Reflection
Today's questions is the same as the question I asked on Sunday.  I think it deserves further thought.

What is God asking you to do to save the Ninevite in your life?

We welcome your comments.

New Beginnings & Second Chances Part 3: Ruth

1/22/2014

Key Verse for January:
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"  -2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV

Key Verse from the Book of Ruth:
But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.  Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.”  -Ruth 1:16-17, NIV

Recap
The Life of Ruth is one of bitterness turned to joy.
Click here to read the book of Ruth>>

1. Faithfulness in Difficult Times.
2. Bitterness Turned to Praise.
3. Sometimes It Takes Bold Action.
4. God Brings Beauty from Ashes.

You may think you're at the end, but God can bring a new beginning.

Question for Reflection
Have you had times when you chose to be bitter instead of trusting God?

I welcome your comments.
Be blessed.

New Beginnings & Second Chance Part 2: Peter

1/14/2014

Key Verse from January:
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" -2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV

Recap
We looked at the life of Peter.
•Peter's betrayal: Matthew 26:69-75
•Peter's calling as a disciple: Matthew 4:18-20
•Peter walking on water: Matthew 14:25-32
•Peter declares Jesus the Messiah: Matthew 16:13-17
•Jesus says "Get behind me Satan" to Peter: Matthew 16:21-23
•Jesus washes Peter's feet: John 13:5-10
•Jesus predicts Peter's denial: Matthew 26:31-35
•Jesus restores Peter: John 21:1-19

Lessons from Peter's life.
1. It's tempting to give up.  We need to stay focused.
2. Sin makes us blind.  We need community.
3. We can't do it on our own.  We need Jesus.

Jesus couldn't really use Peter until his pride was broken.

Question for Reflection
What needs to break in you before God can really use you?

We welcome your comments.

New Beginnings and Second Chances Part 1: King David

1/7/2014

Key Verse for the Month of January:
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!"
2 Corinthians 5:17, NIV

Recap
We looked at the story of King David & Bathsheba.

You can read the story here: 2 Samuel 11:1-12:25 (Or click here).

Questions to ponder...
1. Are You Planning to Succeed?
(David made a choice to stay home, when he should have been with his army).

2. Do You Want To Do What's Right?
(David ignored the warnings from others).

3. Are You Thinking About The Consequences?
(Making the right choice is sometimes hard in the beginning, but it often saves you from painful consequences later).

4. Are You Going Down the Wrong Road?
(David never set out to be a deceiver and a murderer, but that's where the road he chose led him).

David repented and God forgave Him.  David got a second chance!
Whatever we have done, we can give it to God and receive a second chance too.

Question for Reflection
God gives us a second chance.  Why do you think we're often hesitant to give others a second chance?

We welcome your comments.
