The Perfect Fit…You!

10/28/2014

This past week has been significant in the life of our nation.  On this morning when family and friends say good-bye to Cpl. Nathan Cirillo at his funeral in Hamilton, our thoughts and prayers as a church and collectively as a nation are there.  I must admit I still find myself emotional at the senselessness of this loss.  But as often happens, tragedy has brought out the best in our nation.  "We stand on guard for thee".  These events are a reminder that we live in a conflict ridden world.  Sometimes we are asked to leave our nation of safety and security and step into that world with the peace that only comes from Jesus.  I'm not talking about politics or armies, but stepping forward with faith through prayer, support and going to share His light and hope with the world.  Joshua 1:9 says, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”  I'm so thankful for this promise from Joshua is also for you today in the middle of whatever you're facing.

Key Verse from Sunday:
"For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others."  -Romans 12:4-5, NIV

Recap
Series: ROOTED: Grow Deep.  Live Tall.
Message: The Perfect Fit...You.

What does a healthy church look like?  Each person uses the spiritual gifts God has given them to serve the church.
1. A Gift Entrusted to Us.
"Each person should use whatever gift you have received to serve others..." -1 Peter 4:10a, NIV
2. A Gift Meant to be Used.
"If anyone speaks, they should do so..." -1 Peter 4:11a, NIV
3. A Supernatural Gift.
"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others..." -1 Peter 4:10a, NIV
4. A Gift with Lots of Different Pieces.
Ephesians 4:11-13 and Romans 12:4-8 (click to read)
5. Our Gifts Combined Create a Beautiful Picture.
"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession..." -1 Peter 2:9, NIV

Do you know your spiritual gift?  Prayerfully read and reflect on Ephesians 4:11-13 & Romans 12:4-8.  It might be helpful to take a "spiritual gifts test" on the following website (contact me if you'd like a paper copy).
The important thing is that you jump into ministry in your church, cause that's how healthy churches work.

Question for Reflection
Are you using your spiritual gifts in service to His church?

Serving with you,
