“Walk It Out" Email Update from Laurentian Wesleyan Church
Inspiration and Information to Help You "Walk Out" Your Faith Everyday.
Thursday, July 8, 2021

Hey Everybody
I pray you are filled with the grace and peace of Jesus today.

Tell Your Story
Are you a good story teller?  I remember once my Dad was telling a God story about his life, and the grandkids were drinking it in…even asking for more when he was done.  People resonate with our life stories.  Pastor Robert Ferguson from Hillsong Church had a great piece that arrived in my inbox today, and I thought I would share it with you.  It’s a reminder of the importance of telling our stories and reminding ourselves and others what God has done in our lives.  I think of Revelation 12:11, when part of the reason they triumphed was “...the word of their testimony...” (Revelation 12:11). Here’s Pastor Robert:

"I attended a boarding school in England between the ages of seven and eighteen. It was, without doubt, the toughest decade of my life.
I was separated from my family, had few friends, and didn’t do well academically.
However, in retrospect, the experience gave me a gift which has proved invaluable – the gift of survival. It is a gift which I believe would benefit this generation, and one that I am keen to impart.
Recently, when I was enjoying a meal with my grandchildren, they asked, “Tell us another story about your school”. Of course, I was happy to oblige.
Tables are an excellent forum for storytelling. Passing on information, wisdom, gifts, and lessons learned are foundational to life. Stories are designed for such occasions. They are God-given vehicles for the dissemination of truth.
It could be argued that without the sharing of life-affirming stories our culture has a bleak future.
What words are you passing on for future generations?
What gifts do you possess with which others could be graced?
What stories can you share which will help this generation?"
(“What are you passing on?” By Pastor Robert Ferguson (https://www.hillsongstore.com/aygt))

That’s a powerful statement; "It could be argued that without the sharing of life-affirming stories our culture has a bleak future.”
Let’s share what Christ has done in our lives with others.

One of Our Own - In The News!
The Premier visited North Bay this week, but we're even more excited that our own Elaine Lebold was in the news! 😊. I was chatting with her today, and it sounds like she certainly held her own with all the "big shots" (as Laverne called them).  Way to go Elaine...and we're excited for the new Waters Edge to be built.

Friday, July 02, 2021

Hey Everybody
I pray you are filled with the grace and peace of Jesus today.

Chrissy and I had a great time earlier this week visiting with my family in Roblin.  Thank you for your prayers for my Dad.  The spot on his head was cancer, but they are confident they got it all.  PTL!  His health problems couldn’t stop him from putting on a full TURKEY DINNER for the family on Sunday night.  Yum.  A great time was had by all.  Thanks for your prayers.

Happy Belated Canada Day!
There has been much discussion about Canada Day this year.  As I’ve been reflecting, I would add this thought.
I think sometimes we’re looking for a perfect nation.  Such a thing does not exist. The only one who was perfect is Jesus Christ.
(‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1:18-19‬ ‭- https://www.bible.com/111/1pe.1.18-19.niv)

So I pray for our imperfect nation of Canada.

Grateful for many things.
Reflecting on many things.
Praying for many things.

God keep our land.

As we all continue to learn and grow regarding Canada’s relationship with her Indigenous peoples, I’ll continue to share some links and resources along the way.  This is a 30 minute video that gives some meaningful insight from a Christian perspective, and how we as Christians can and should respond.  Let’s keep praying and talking.  https://youtu.be/uRJToqK7NzQ

A Report You Don’t Want to Miss
I guarantee this is the most memorable report you’ll ever hear.  Tony Verlinden (your delegate) and I heard it at the District Conference for the Central Canada District of the Wesleyan Church last Saturday.
You'll hear the challenge...that every church on our district connect with Global Partners and World Hope...and we've already done that!  Way to go Laurentian!  Let's keep our eyes, hearts, prayers and resources looking not only to our church, but beyond.
Click the link to watch the video...you'll be glad you did 😃🎶
Thanks Dan James Wallis (pastor at Cornerstone in North Gower, ON, and our district missions committee for putting it together!

Two Services this Sunday at 10an & 11:15am! - Thursday, June 17, 2021

“Walk It Out" Email Update from Laurentian Wesleyan Church
Inspiration and Information to Help You "Walk Out" Your Faith Everyday.

Thursday, June 17, 2021

Hey Everybody
I pray you are filled with the grace and peace of Jesus today.

Pray for Christ’s Peace…Not the World’s.
I’m writing this on Thursday morning, and this afternoon I have the privilege of leading the “Celebration of Light and Life Service” at Waters Edge Care Community.  It is a service they hold every so often to honour those who have passed away.  I’ll be giving a short message from John 14:27; “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”  I’ve been reflecting on the difference between the peace of Christ, and the peace of the world.  So today’s email reflection is a bit of a do-it-yourself one.  Would you consider reflecting on the differences?  Of course, we know Christ’s peace is better, but we often forget why.

I pray for peace, and welcome your prayers for those who are grieving in this season.

Last Sunday, June 13th - State of the Church
I loved being with everyone last week as I shared my yearly report.
If you would like a copy of my report, our financial statement and budget, either in print or a digital copy, please let me know and I’ll get that right out to you!

This Sunday, June 20th! - Happy Father’s Day! & Two Sunday Services!
I hope you will join us in-person, online, this Sunday as we celebrate all the men in our church at either 10am or 11:15am.
•10am - In the Sanctuary - In-Person and Online
•11:15am - In the Basement - In-Person

We are inviting you to register for service at www.laurentianchurch.com, but we have more seats available, so I’m confident they’ll be a seat for you!

Why still two services?
If everyone comes, we are just over our current capacity of 15%, so we're happy to offer two.  And I like our “cool” service in the basement 😎.  On a hot Sunday, it’s a great place to be.  It’s a little more personal as we sit around tables and have an opportunity to share, and our singing fills the basement…even with our masks on! 😷🎶🙌🏻.  We’re still asking you to consider registering so we know they’ll be folks in both services.  So…whether 10am in our beautiful sanctuary, or 11:15 in our cool basement…we hope to see you Sunday!

Upcoming!  Special Guest on Sunday, June 27th - Aimée Garbutt, the new Executive Director of Youth For Christ Nipissing
Hope you can join us for her presentation. (See attached photo)

Prayer Update
•Pray for all our students and teachers as they finish up this weird school year.
•Pray for our online District Conference this coming Saturday, June 26th.  Tony Verlinden will be our delegate.  It’s wonderful to be a part of the Central Canada District, where we share vision, mission, accountability and governance…among other things.  I’d appreciate pray as I am preparing a little video opener with people from across our district reciting “The Lord’s Prayer”.  I hope to show the finished video in our service next Sunday…reflecting the diversity and people from around our Central Canada District family.
•Continue to pray for May Demers who recently had a heart attack (cousin of Verna Verlinden, and friend of Marg Anderson).

If you have a prayer request you’d like to share, please let me know.

Just a little note on change - Thursday, June 10, 2021

6/10/2021

“Walk It Out" Email Update from Laurentian Wesleyan Church
Inspiration and Information to Help You "Walk Out" Your Faith Everyday.

Thursday, June 10, 2021

Hey Everybody
I pray you are filled with the grace and peace of Jesus today.

Last Sunday, June 6th - Get Back to Your First Love
What a Sunday!  Three services, each with their own flavour, and I enjoyed every taste (ok, I’ll stop…ha).  Thanks for trying this little experiment together.  I thought it went great.
We began our new sermon series, “Portraits of the Church”, and looked at the letter to the church in Ephesus.  Don’t forsake your first love!
If you missed it, you can watch the re-run here: https://youtu.be/QCCKJNEUPC8
-

Just a little note on change.
Today during our Pastor’s Prayer Zoom call, Pastor Brent from Greenwood Baptist shared how none of us are experts on prayer, so we keep praying (my paraphrase).  Isn’t that true!  As followers of Jesus, we are always growing in our understanding and practice of prayer.  Growing means we change.  If I could fast forward 5 years, I would hope I’m not the same man I am today.  I hope I would have grown, and be a little bit more like Christ.  Not all change is good, but change itself is non-negotiable.  If we’re breathing, we’re changing.  Are we changing to be more like Christ…that’s the question.  "See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah 43:19)

Speaking of change…

As your pastor, it’s fun keeping track of the provincial guidelines for churches concerning Covid and how they keep changing (sarcasm intended…it’s not really that fun🥴).  The province has made an unexpected, but welcome change which will enable us to meet more freely in the coming weeks.  However, for this Sunday, June 6th, I’ve decided we’re going to keep our 3 Sunday services as already announced.  So…

This Sunday, June 13th, join us online, or, for one of our 3 in-person services.
•8am - In the Sanctuary (North Side)
•10am - In the Sanctuary (South Side) and Online
•11:15am - In the Basement (this is the cool service! 🧊😊)

Register at www.laurentianchurch.com or give me a call at 705-494-9710.

Online service continues every Sunday, at a NEW TIME…10:00am.  Find the links at www.laurentianchurch.com

We’ll have more to share this Sunday about future services, so watch for that.

Prayer Update
•Pray for London, Ontario as they grieve the senseless loss of this family in the hit and run this week.  All people, no matter if they share our faith or not, should be treated with dignity, respect and love.  We are all made in God’s image.
•It’s Armed Forces Day.  Pray for those who stand ready to serve.  We are grateful for you and your contribution to our community!
•Pray for for those dealing with addictions, that they can find hope and healing in Jesus, and help and harmony in the church.
