We’re moving forward! Our 2009 edition of our Family Finder was printed and handed out at the beginning of the new year. I have received a lot of positive feedback on the new format for our Family Finder and I am glad that it has been well received by the people of our church.
Also in January, our church prepared to send their pastor packing sort of speak. From February 1st to the 13th I was fortunate to be a part of the Powassan/Laurentian 2009 Mexico Mission Trip to Ensenada , Baja California , Mexico . Please see the other article of this edition of News From The Pews for more details about the mission trip. To see pictures of the trip and the Mexican Fiesta For Missions fundraiser go to our church website (www.laurentianchurch.com).
It is hard to believe how quickly time has flown by. In many ways it feels as if I have just started here at Laurentian Wesleyan Church but the reality is I have almost completed my first two year call. During the month of March the LBA completed a pastoral review with the help of Rev. Thurland Brown and the church as a whole was asked to vote on a renewal call. The church spoke strongly and I have prayerfully accepted the call to continue to minister here at Laurentian.
The Wesleyan Church like some other denominations is a congregational church. Meaning it is structured in such a way that the members of our church play a vital role in determining the direction of the local church. This means that the more members our church has the stronger our church is. It has been exciting to receive five new members to our church in the last three months. If anyone is interested in learning more about our church or membership please contact me and I would be happy to discuss it with you.
April has been an exciting time as we celebrated the Easter season. We had a wonderful time celebrating Palm Sunday. What a joy it was to sing “Hosanna” which our youth waving palm branches in the air. Our youth also helped us through their WKFM program to understand better how Christians around the world celebrate Palm Sunday. After the service we enjoyed a fantastic time of food and fellowship. Our shared Good Friday service with First Baptist, Lakeshore Missionary Church and the Harbour was well attended. This is always a wonderful service as it is a real testimony to our faith that we are all united under Christ. Our Easter Sunday service was a beautiful time as well with special music from the Sounds of Joy and a wonderful presentation by our Bible Club. During our service there was an invitation to personally accept Christ and also an invitation to rededicate ones life to the Lord. I am glad to share the fact that many hands were raised that day. Praise the Lord. He is doing wonderful things here at Laurentian.
God bless, Pastor Chris
