After a few summers that didn’t quite live up to our expectations weather-wise this summer has been fantastic. Things here at Laurentian have slowed down a bit for the summer as people have taken time to enjoy the warm weather.
In our last edition of our News From The Pews I shared in an article about a possible change to our Local Board of Administration (LBA) that would be brought forward at our Local Church Conference (LCC). The proposal brought fourth by the 2009-2010 LBA was to reduce the five Covenant Member board to a three Covenant Member board with two non-voting advisors. Those advisors would be people within our church who could be Covenant Members, Community Members or adherents. During our LCC the proposal was discussed and with a small amendment to define what an adherent was the motion was passed. Our 2010-2011 LBA with its new format has already begun meeting and working together.
Something also that is new at Laurentian is our newly formed Trustee Committee. This year we have a few different projects we are hoping to complete and to do these projects it was felt that we needed to get more people involved with the projects. This committee has already started to meet and is looking at the idea of moving our nursery to the basement in order to expand our vestibule so that we can have more space for people who wish to stay after the service for fellowship time. Also our committee is looking into having a new church sign constructed and installed as our current sign is showing its age.
Along with the business of our LCC and new Trustee Committee the church has had a few different events in the last couple of months. Our church held a church wide breakfast and work bee in May. We were able to get a few jobs started around the church that we hope will be completed this year. Also in May we celebrated Mother’s Day with a delicious cake and carnations were handed out to all the women of our church. In June we held our LCC, and celebrated Father’s Day with a cake and ice cream. During June our Wesleyan Women’s group held a Women’s Retreat and invited the women of both the
As I said it’s been a busy time so give thanks to God for all that has been accomplished and enjoy your summer.
God bless, Pastor Chris
